Isn't it funny when....

Today someone put on St Etienne's greatest "hits" album at work. Next thing I know I'm at Heavenlys office (St Etiennes label) discussing catching Tench with Jeff. Here's Robin (co-editor of Socialism) in his den. Also went to see this band Blondell at Metro on Oxford Street who were totally ace. Like Sonic Youth if they were in Dawsons Creek. David and I did feel very old however.

Staff Photo

Tonight the core people at Vice Magazine (http://www.viceland.com) had to gather for a group photo. Jamie is in Japan learning to be a Ninja so he couldn't make it. Here's Philly Kev. Great to see him again and looking well and happy. I miss my dog Soooo much.

Some More From This Weekend

Garden Of England

Just spent the weekend at Perou's farm. Great time. Drank too much. Taz is down there now. We miss him so much. Terrible thing to give up your dog. But I know he is happy down there. See you Saturday Taz. Can't wait.

Deliverance

Dad is learning the Banjo. To add to the other 1000 instruments he can already play. He's getting quite good.

Gramps

Took Gramps out for Tea and Cake. When we got back to his house he was really exhausted. He wants to do so much but really can't handle it. I suppose that's what happens when you are 95.

Hipster Replacement

Visited Mum in hospital in Yorkshire after her hip replacement surgery. All went very well and she's fine.

Massa

Nice bloke but very dull. But he know's how to drive a very fast car better than any of us. We'd all like his job but probably not his life. I like the fact that no-one times me. Amazing car tho'

Glitter Ball

Am I developing an obsession with these things? They just look so fab!

Tha Endz

Is getting ready for Carnival. This man is here every market day playing his violin very slowly. This Carnival I will be hunting, shooting and fishing. In Kent.

Minicab mate?

This tricked out ride was parked right outside the Front party at the Cafe De Paris. There were all sorts of unholy activities going on in that club. Wonder is they managed to save the souls of any D list celebritys?

100th Issue Party

Tonight was Front Magazines 100th Issue Party at the Cafe De Paris. Good fun. Lot's of silly people doing silly things. Us editorial lot were a bit bemused but looks like it was a success. That's Dilly and Hayley in the Cab on the way there. Don't they both just look fantastic!

Goodbye The Perou Factory

Tonight I did my little bit in helping the Perou zoo move from their compound in East London to green horizons new in Kent. I drove Perou's R32 (no great sacrifice) to their new home and beat them all to it. Ha! only to get lost at the other end in the Marshlands. Funny to see the Factory for what might be the last time. I have fond memories of lot's of parties and lot's of shoots there (especially Mercury Rev and Schoolboy Fantasies see perou.co.uk if interested) we did together there.

Holland Park

Walked up to Holland Park with Taz this afternoon. It's like going back into the 19th century there. Has autumn arrived?

U.S.S Enterprise

Rowan played the Enterprise in Camden last night. On a smaller scale to their recent crowd slaying festival apperances. Bianca and her friend Emily (from Yorkshire) came along and Josh brought lots of people.

Please Stop Trying To Blow Shit Up

It's so boring. Here we like a few drinks and a few adventures. I really can't be arsed with all this Muslim bullshit. When I go away I NEVER put baggage in the hold. It means I am unemcumbered and is also a surefire way to an upgrade. Please keep your riddiculous middle ages religion to yourselves and stop trying to kill the rest of us. OK?, great, thanks! Oh and by the way I went out tonight and did loads of unislamic things (including taking these pictures). It was fun!

Henry

Is the security guard at the office. He mostly watches childrens TV and his laughter can be heard all over the building. Being a veteran of a few nasty central African civil wars he likes his peaceful life now.

Miami Vice

When I was about 15 the highlight of my week was Miami Vice. Freezing and miserable on a school playing field on a Wednesday afternoon in damp and horrible East Yorkshire, I knew that at 9 O'Clock that evening I would be transported to the drug war in Southern Florida. I have yet to see this film but am very prepared to reserved judgement. I think it's going to be great. It's hard to communicate how central to my development Miami Vice is. I am actually thinking about buying a Static Caravan somewhere near the Sea. Not quite a Sloop on Miami Harbour and without the pet Alligator but it's a start. Listen to "Smuggler's Blues" by Glen Frey for more details. Miami Vice is probably why I still fell comfortable wearing pink shoes. Despite the fact I am 35.

Hoxton Grand Prix

So, today we were sent some electric motorcycles and timed ourselves around the block, Good fun. In particular for those who have never ridden a proper motorbike. Makes me yearn for a CBR 900 Fireblade and an open road. Dreams of escape? Probably.

Holiday Grimm

Woke up in Plymouth this morning but could not wait to get in the car and race back home. There is something very depressing about faceless hotels in unfamiliar regional towns.

World Class One Offshore Race In Plymouth

I was lucky enough recently to drive the Chris Parsonage Racing King Of Shaves Class One Offshore Powerboat for a piece and Yesterday I was invited to watch the British leg of the championship in Plymouth. Chris (throttle) and James (pilot) were running really well until a freak bit of wake made them flip and capsize at 130mph. Thankfully they both emerged unscathed but the boat looks like a write off. Oh well, It'll only cost about a million pounds to replace. Here's Chris having a beer and thanking Neptune that he's not at the bottom in Davy Jones's locker.

Small Children In The Background

My niece Libby's first birthday party back in East Yorkshire on Saturday. It was like a live action version of the TV show Rugrats. The chocolate monsters were great. Happy birthday Libby!

The Great North Road

Last night. Sorry for the delay. No internet at my folks place in Yorkshire (yet). Took the 350Z up on the A1 and A46 and then over the Humber Bridge on Friday night. Atonal Black Metal on the stereo and a 3.5 V6 under the hood. I LOVE this car. Got there in 2 and a half hours. A new record. I know ths is all kryptonite to those of you who are indifferent to cars but I think i reached a state of automotive grace last night.

Robin Hardy And The Wicker Man

Tonight I went with David up to East Finchley to the Phoenix Cinema for a screening of The Wicker Man followed by a short talk by the films director Robin Hardy. Here's David showing Robin the feature we did for Dazed And Confused magazine about the films locations in Scotland on the 30th anniversary of it's release. Don't think he'd seen it before and seemed both pleased and bemused by it. Aren't I a geeky film spod?

Indie

James Endacott. I love james. We had lunch today in a Pizza joint in Soho. I was meant to fly to Dundee to watch his band The View with him and Jamie James tomorrow but the complications of air travel have sabotaged the trip. Oh well, hope he's up for some powerboat racing on Sunday. If you live in London it pays to look up sometimes. We never see any skies so most of us just look down at the pavement. If you look up you see on what a knife edge this city exists on and might come to the conclusion (as I did tonight) that the city is becoming alot more like the city in the film Bladerunner all the time.

Jennifer Aniston Must Die

Don't know how I managed to be talked into it but I went to see "The Break Up" at the cinema tonight. I would rather have had all my skin peeled off slowly while slowly dying of cancer. Don't go and see it. It seemed to distill into an hour and a half all the things that are wrong with this world and our bankrupt and perverse popula r culture. On a lighter note here's Steve 'Neon' Beech. He's Front Magazines Art Director and sees the world differently to you and I. While we see subtle shades of light and colour Neon just sees very bright and colourful lights all around him. All the time. Bit like in the film Tron. Nissan 350Z arriving for a few days tomorrow.
