EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY from Texas played the vertical Astoria with beauty and menace. The set included 'Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean' which is about the Kursk disaster. Has anyone ever made such amazing music about slowly suffocating Russian submariners?
Fitzrovian Phonographic at the bar featuring MICACHU, ALEXANDER WOLFE, and RUMER. Upstairs the dark lords TK1, Caughtbytheriver.net and socialismmagazine.com were in the house and on top form.
Visited the 5th floor for the usual favour from Q magazine then later the crew where everybody knows your name at the indie Cheers helped me photograph a bunch of cocktails for the day mag.
Back from the black hearted country and straight out the the soapbox club at No 57 Greek Street. DEREK MEIMS and MUMFORD AND SONS were great and a handsome young man later played the accordion from the old country in a magical fashion. That's Shankly the Staffie on the door watching out for the darkseekers.
A nice lady doctor removed a UFO from my right eye at Moorfields A+E. Quite a relief. Despite slightly anaesthetised vision I then headed to New Cross to witness SHITTING FIST's second only performance in the live arena. Rayner and co rocked the house (for about 8 minutes)
Ol' Georgina took us to the Art And Sex exhibition at The Barbican. Very fruity. Then tapas and across to the OBL for the VICE issue launch party. The Wolf was in the area. Later Georgina got me to light up Lee aka SNIPE in the gents of The Dragon Bar in order to keep the gangsters sweet.
Friday spent in Viceland and The Griffin. That's my old friend Lucy Bryant at the bottom. We shared a halls at The University Of Derby School Of Art And Design back in the day (1992 actually) Very nice to see her again. Oxo back to SW9 then typical Saturday at the market followed by roast pheasant then the Amersham arms for a crazy over-subscribed Dev gig. The kids were queing around the corner.
